Timeless Style
Timeless Style. Built To Last
Wood & Faux Wood Blinds give you the option to match the woods and painted colors in your home. A classic product that brings modern finishes to your windows.
Wood & Faux Wood Blinds offer a timeless look on any window, and the tilting slats are what make them so versatile. Tilt them to let the view through while creating daytime privacy to the inside, or tilt them closed when you need a good amount of the light blocked. When you want the whole window back, raise them up and the slats stack at the top of the opening.
From outside they add a clean look to the front of the home and real curb appeal. They're a cost effective option that brings traditional function together with modern features, which makes them a great solution for any home or office window. And you no longer have to pull long cords to lift heavy slats: with our cord free options you raise the blind with a gentle push of your hand, so they're a safe choice in rooms with kids or pets.
Why Our Clients Choose Them
What wood and faux wood blinds do for your home
- Privacy With A ViewTilt the slats part way and you get daytime privacy to the inside while you still see out to the yard. Close them when the sun sits on the floor, and a good amount of the light stays out.
- Faux Wood Where The Water IsKitchens, bathrooms and anywhere there's steam. Our faux wood is a durable engineered polymer, so it won't crack, chip or fade the way real wood can, and it wipes clean.
- The Lowest Initial InvestmentOf everything we install, Wood & Faux Wood Blinds are the lowest initial investment, and you still get a custom fit, a stained or painted finish that matches your trim, and our Carefree Guarantee behind them.
Whether you need privacy, light control, or you just want to add an element of design to a room, blinds will do it. The tilt is what makes them different from a shade. With a shade you're covered or uncovered, while the tilt on a blind lets you choose which direction the light goes, so you can bounce the afternoon sun up off the ceiling and keep your view out the bottom, or close the slats and settle the room down.
Water decides wood against faux wood first. Steam, standing humidity or any real chance of a splash means faux wood: bathrooms, laundry rooms and anything over a sink. Everywhere else it comes down to your trim. Real wood is lighter, and it takes a stain, so against stained trim it can be matched until the blind looks built in. Against painted white trim, a painted faux wood is indistinguishable and it costs less, so that's where we land.
Your Design Specialist will bring both to your home and hold them up against your own trim, in your own light. That's part of your free in-home consultation, and it's the fastest way to settle a decision that's very hard to make from a photograph. Every opening gets measured on site, and you'll have an exact itemized quote before we leave.
Wood Blinds By Solar Shield Blinds
Warm wood tones soften the light
Real wood blinds offer warm, rich wood tones. This option allows you to pull in other wood tones in the room, and really make a statement at the window. Stained wood blinds offer direct light control and warm a space with clean lines and natural colors.

Wood Or Faux Wood
Which one belongs at your window

Real Wood
Lighter than faux wood, so it stays easy to operate on a wide window, and it takes a stain, which is how we match the stained trim and woods already in your home.

Faux Wood
A durable engineered polymer that won't crack, chip or fade, and it brings the extra benefits of vinyl anywhere there's moisture. Kitchens, bathrooms and steam are where we recommend it every time.

Frequently Asked Questions
In most cases, we recommend using a Faux Wood blind as your slats will hold up much better over time against things like warping, bowing, and finish stability. However, there are specific cases where real Wood Blinds are the correct solution. If your window is really wide and tall, a real wood blind will offer a lighter weight product, which makes lifting the blind easier. If you are trying to match to stained wood, often we have to use real wood blinds to find the best match. Our Design Specialists will help you determine which option is best for you, your home, and your budget.
Three: Cordless (Child Safe), Cordless Lift & Lock (Child Safe), Motorized / Automated (Child Safe). Your Design Specialist helps you work out the right one for your windows.
Our typical lead time is 4 to 6 weeks from order to final installation. Most of our projects are completed within one installation day.
We only carry products that hold up, and we back them with our No Questions Asked Guarantee to protect your investment. If something is wrong, call us and we will put it right.
Yes. Our custom window treatments come with transferable warranties. If you move, the warranty continues, which means the next owner is covered the same way you were.
In a kitchen, a bathroom or anywhere with steam, faux wood is the better product, because it's an engineered polymer that won't crack, chip or fade. Real wood wins on weight, so it stays easier to lift on a wide window, and it takes a stain, which matters when you're matching stained trim. Everywhere else the difference comes down to price, and faux wood is the lower one.
Two inch is the default and suits most windows. On a tall window, two and a half inch reads more substantial and lets slightly more light through when open. One inch suits small openings and cottage style interiors. Your Design Specialist brings the samples so you can hold each size up against your own window before you decide.
On a French door, yes, with a hold down bracket at the bottom so the blind doesn't swing when the door does. We measure the door on site so the blind clears the handle and the trim, and we'll show you the options at your consultation. See our French door solutions for the full picture.
Yes. Every line we carry has a cordless lift option and a wand tilt, so there's no accessible cord anywhere on the blind. That's why we recommend them for playrooms, nurseries and any room where kids or pets spend their day, and three of our four operating systems are cord free.
Yes, and that's the main reason our clients choose them. Tilt the slats part way and you have daytime privacy to the inside while you still see out to the yard or the street. Tilt them closed for a good amount of light blockage, and when you want the whole window back, raise them and the slats stack at the top of the opening.
Yes. Steam, splashes and standing humidity are where real wood struggles, and our faux wood is a durable engineered polymer that won't crack, chip or fade. It wipes clean, and from across the room nobody can tell it from the real thing. Bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms and anything over a sink get faux wood from us every time.
Yes. Real wood takes a stain, so against stained trim and the woods already in your home it can be matched until the blind looks built in. Against painted trim, a painted faux wood is indistinguishable and costs less. Your Design Specialist brings both to your free in-home consultation and holds them up against your own trim in your own light.
They're the lowest initial investment of everything we offer, and you still get a blind custom built to the measurements we take, installed by our own full time Install Techs, and covered by our Carefree Guarantee. Your quote is itemized on the spot and held for 180 days, so you can take your time deciding.
Yes. That's one of the reasons they're so popular on the front of a house: from outside they add a clean look and good curb appeal. Ask your Design Specialist about routeless slats, which have no route holes, and about a valance or cornice to finish the top of the window.
Tilted closed, they block a good amount of light, and routeless slats close out more of it because there are no route holes for light to come through. They won't give you the full blackout of a room darkening shade with side channels, so for a bedroom that needs to be truly dark we'll point you to a shade, or layer a drapery over the blind.
Real wood. Faux wood is denser, so a wide blind gets heavy and can bow over time. Past roughly six feet we'll recommend real wood, or we'll split the opening into two blinds on the same window so each one stays light to operate. Your Design Specialist measures every opening on site, so this gets settled before you order.
