Drapery & Soft Treatments

Drapery & Soft Treatments by Solar Shield Blinds

The best way to customize any space is with soft treatments. Drapery, curtains, Roman shades, cornices, top treatments, pillows and bench seat cushions all add color, texture, style and design to any room of the home, and we have thousands of custom fabrics to help create the perfect personality for yours.

Style And Texture

The layer that gives a room its personality

Soft treatments are the best way to customize any space, and they're our go to for softening and styling living rooms, bedrooms and dining rooms.

Drapery, curtains, Roman shades, cornices, top treatments, pillows, bench seat cushions. All of these soft treatments add color, texture, style and design to any room of the home. Fabric helps make rooms and spaces look and feel finished, softens the bouncing noise that a room with hard floors and big windows creates, and pulls the colors in the room together. Soft treatments are the best way to transform a house into a home.

We have thousands of custom fabrics to choose from to help create the perfect personality for your home. We source the fabric from mills from around the world, but many of our fabrics are stocked in our custom workrooms and are ready for your next project. Our COM program, customers own material, means that if you've already found a fabric you love somewhere else, we can use that to create whatever product you prefer. If you can think it, our team can plan, create, and install it for you!

Why Our Clients Choose Them

What drapery and soft treatments do for your home

  • Softens a Hard RoomLined fabric is the cheapest acoustic treatment there is. If your room has hard floors and big glass, two panels either side of the window change how it sounds and how it feels.
  • Finishes a Window You've Already CoveredMost of our drapery goes up next to a shade rather than instead of one. Side panels frame the opening, hide the hardware, and make a hard treatment look designed instead of installed.
  • Extend Your Rooms HeightWhen you want to extend the height of your room, we install your custom hardware up to the ceiling, hang full length drapery panels to the floor, and assure the correct fullness. This forces your eye up in the room, and instantly creates a taller looking space.

Whether you need privacy, light control, a quieter room, or you just want an element of design that finishes the whole thing off, our drapery and soft treatments will do it. We offer fully functional drapery panels, stationary side panels, Roman Shades, cornices, valances, pillows and bench seat cushions, and everything is cut and sewn in our own workroom using drapery weight fabrics.

Lining is a decision rather than an upsell. Unlined is translucent and it will fade. A lined panel hangs better, blocks more and lasts longer. Interlined is heavier again, it's what a hotel uses, and it's what you want when the drapery is doing real light blocking work. We'll tell you which one the room actually needs.

Add a blackout liner to your drapery or your Roman Shades and a bedroom gets cozy in a way a hard treatment never manages on its own. Or go the other way, pick something bright or patterned from the thousands of custom fabrics we carry, and let the fabric be the thing people notice about the room. Most of it ends up layered over a shade, which does the work at the glass while the fabric does the work in the room.

Frequently Asked Questions

With thousands of custom fabrics to choose from, there is a lot to look at. Our Design Specialists help you with color and texture selection. We bring the swatches and samples to your home so you can see the colors in your own lighting and in your own space, as part of your free in-home consultation.

Our typical lead time is 4 to 6 weeks from order to final installation. Most of our projects are completed within one installation day.

We only carry products that hold up, and we back them with our No Questions Asked Guarantee to protect your investment. If something is wrong, call us and we will put it right.

Yes. Our custom window treatments come with transferable warranties. If you move, the warranty continues, which means the next owner is covered the same way you were.

Go with them, almost every time. The shade underneath handles the light and the privacy, and the drapery layered over it finishes the window and softens the room. That's the way a designer would do it, and it's what most of our drapery work looks like: a Roller Shade or a Natural Woven Shade at the glass, with panels framing the opening on either side.

Higher than you think, yes. We fix the rod close to the ceiling, or roughly two thirds of the way between the top of the casing and the ceiling, then run the panel all the way to the floor. It costs a little more fabric, and it's the single biggest thing you can do to make a wall read taller and a room feel bigger than it measures.

Yes. Window seats, banquettes and bay window cushions come out of the same fabric library as the drapery, so a bench cushion and the panels beside it coordinate instead of clashing. Pillows too. Your Design Specialist measures the seat on site the same way we measure a window, and everything is sewn in our own workroom.

Yes. Motorized traverse rods are available, and they earn their keep on very wide or very tall panels, or on a rod you can't easily reach. Roman Shades can be automated too. Every product we offer has an option for automated control, and your Design Specialist will tell you whether it's worth it on your windows.

Lining is a decision, not an upsell. Unlined is translucent and it will fade. A lined panel hangs better, blocks more light and lasts longer. Interlined is heavier again, and it's what you want when the drapery is doing real light blocking work rather than decorative work. We'll tell you which one the room actually needs.

Add a blackout liner to the drapery or to a Roman Shade and a bedroom gets dark and cozy in a way a hard treatment never manages on its own. Interlined panels are the ones doing real light blocking work. For a room that has to be as dark as possible, layer the drapery over a blackout shade at the glass so the two work together.

Yes. We run a COM program, which stands for customer own material. If you've already found a fabric you love, bring it to the consultation and we'll build to it in our own workroom. Otherwise there are thousands of custom fabrics in our library, and your Design Specialist brings the samples to your home so you can see them in your own light.

The Classic Roman Shade. The traditional flat Roman folds neater and lies flatter than the other styles, so a pattern stays readable instead of disappearing into the folds. The Pleated London, Hobbled, Knife Pleat and Ribbed Pleat styles are built around their pleats and look best in a solid or textured fabric, and the Relaxed Roman wants a drapery weight fabric.

Yes. Our Roman Shades feature the best in cordless operation, so there's no loop hanging down for a child or a pet to reach. You can have a fabric valance covering the working hardware, or let the fabric waterfall off the face of the headrail for a clean look. Automation is available too, if you'd rather never touch them at all.

Yes. Every panel, Roman Shade, cornice and cushion is cut and sewn in our own workroom from drapery weight fabrics, then hung, steamed and hand dressed on site by our own Install Techs. Nothing is stock or ready made. That's also why we can build to a fabric you bring us, and why the panels hang straight from day one.

Yes, and it's the one thing most people economize on and regret. A panel that is exactly as wide as the space it covers hangs flat and looks thin. Two to two and a half times the width of the opening gives you the folds that make fabric look like fabric, and it's the detail most worth spending a little extra on.
