Where It Fits In Decatur
Where Exterior Patio Shades Fit In Decatur
Wind is the hardest test for any outdoor shade in Central Illinois, and our shades are built to stand up to it.
- Lake Decks And Covered PatiosA deck that faces Lake Decatur catches the wind off the water. Lower the shades and the patio becomes a calm, shaded space with a view out through the screen.
- Pergolas And Screened PorchesAs long as there is a solid header above the opening, we can mount a shade to it, whether that's a covered patio, a pergola with a roof, a screened porch or a covered deck.
- Cold Evenings OutsideClose the shades on a cold night, add a good heat source like ceiling heaters or a fire pit, and the space holds that warmth instead of letting the wind carry it away.
- Garages And West WindowsA retractable screen can turn your garage into a room you actually use, and exterior shades mounted outside a south or west facing window stop the heat before it reaches the glass.
Built For Central Illinois Wind
Side tracks, screen fabric, and a professional install
The strength in our Solar Shield Blinds Exterior Patio Shade system comes from our Self-Adjusting Tracks. The SA Tracks grip the screen along both sides and give up to ¾ inch on each side when the wind pushes, then snap the fabric taut once it calms. That flex is what prevents rewraps, the most common wind related failure on light duty outdoor shades.
Screens come in 80%, 95%, 97% and 99% openness plus a 0% blackout material, and the color matters as much as the openness. Flat Black, Black and Charcoal keep the view out to the yard or the water the sharpest, while Bone, Stone and White keep it brighter underneath. The headbox, tracks and bottom rail are powder coated aluminum in five stock colors or a custom one, and the manufacturer backs that hardware for life.
One shade can close in an opening as wide as 30 feet and as tall as 20. Plan on 8 to 10 weeks between your order and your install, so if you want the patio ready for summer, book your consultation in the spring. Each installation is run by one of our Crew Leads, and our Install Techs clean up and show you how to run every shade before they leave.

Screen Colors
Exterior screen colors we bring to Decatur
Your Design Specialist holds each one up against your siding, stone and trim so you see it in your own light before you decide.
Flat Black
The clearest view out of anything here. A dark screen absorbs light rather than scattering it, so the yard stays sharp.
Charcoal
A middle tone that reads as shadow from outside, with a clear view from inside.
Granite
A gray with visible texture in the weave. Holds up against stone and painted siding without going flat.
Tobacco
Warm mid brown. The usual pick where the house has cedar or a stained deck.
Espresso Texture
A woven texture rather than a flat color, which breaks up a very large span so it does not read as one sheet.
Shadow Texture
Blue gray with a textured weave. The one that suits a modern exterior with gray or black window frames.
Stone Texture
A pale textured neutral. Brighter underneath than the darks, and it hides dust between cleans.
Bone
Soft off white. Light stays bright under the shade, at the cost of some outward visibility.

Straight Answers
Exterior Patio Shades questions from Decatur homeowners
Yes. They carry a 75 mph wind rating, and the side tracks let the screen flex with the gusts. When a storm rolls in, leave them down. Personally, we never raise our own shades during a storm, no matter the forecast.
They do. With the fabric sealed in the side tracks, rain, snow, ice, leaves, cottonwood and bugs stay on the outside of the screen.
Yes, they're worth it on any motorized exterior shade. The sun sensor drops the shade when the late day sun gets bright, and the wind sensor pulls it up when gusts get too strong, so the shade is protected even when you're away.
Yes. With the wind cut down, your grill cooks more evenly. We recommend extra ventilation so smoke can exit safely, and the same goes for a propane heater or a fire pit.
No. Most motorized jobs need just one outlet or junction box, and where there is no power at all, we have battery operated motors. Your Design Specialist works out the power with you during the consultation.
Yes. The headbox, side tracks and bottom rail are powder coated aluminum backed by a manufacturer lifetime warranty, and our Carefree Guarantee adds Five Year Service on defects and Lifetime Product coverage on materials and workmanship. If you sell your Decatur home, the coverage transfers to the next owner.
