We want your window coverings to be amazing, functional, practical and stylish. But most importantly, we make sure they'll be SAFE.

Safe For Your Family

Certified Best For Kids

All of our products have options that are safe for your home and your family.

We want your window coverings to be amazing, functional, practical, and stylish. But most importantly, we make sure that your window coverings will be SAFE! We only offer cordless products through our trusted vendors that are certified "Best For Kids", a certification process set by the Window Covering Safety Council.

Window covering manufacturers have to submit their products to a third party testing lab, and only after those products pass testing can they be labeled Best for Kids. All of our products have options that are safe for your home and your family, so tell us there are small children or pets in the house and we'll build the whole job around it.

Operating Systems

Operating systems that keep your shades and blinds safe

Every product we offer has an option that is rated Best for Kids. Removing cords and strings from your shades and blinds are always the best option. But when we do need to use a cord loop or chain loop due to high windows where motors aren't an option, we assure that the loops are secured with industry compliant child safe hold down guides.

Cordless Lift control option, from Solar Shield Blinds

Cordless Lift Child Safe

Lift and lower the shade with a push up or a light pull down on the bottom rail, so there's no chain or cord hanging beside the window at all. Available on every shade and blind we carry.

Cordless Lift and Lock control option, from Solar Shield Blinds

Cordless Lift & Lock Child Safe

Holds its position anywhere in the travel without a cord lock to release, and there's no accessible cord anywhere on the blind. On Honeycomb Shades, the Cordless Lift and Lock Top Down Bottom Up goes up to 84 inches wide.

PowerWand control option, from Solar Shield Blinds

PowerWand Child Safe

A rechargeable motor in a wand. Touch the button and the shade lifts or lowers, with easy access to the charge port on the side of the wand, and it's the affordable way into motorization.

Motorized and automated control option, from Solar Shield Blinds

Motorized / Automated Child Safe

Solar Shield Blinds Smart Shades run from a remote, the app on your phone or tablet, wall switches, or your voice, with schedules and scenes. Rechargeable motors need no wiring, so they go into an existing house with no electrical work.

Wand tilt option for Wood and Faux Wood Blinds, from Solar Shield Blinds

Wand Tilt On Blinds Child Safe

Our Wood and Faux Wood Blinds tilt with a wand instead of a tilt cord. Pair it with a cordless lift and there's no accessible cord anywhere on the blind, which is why we recommend them for playrooms and nurseries.

Cord Loop control option with a hold down, from Solar Shield Blinds

Cord Loop With A Hold Down

Where a chain or cord loop is still the right answer, on a high window where a motor isn't preferred, the continuous loop is tensioned and anchored to the casing or wall with a child safe hold down device, so nothing hangs loose.

Why Our Clients Choose Them

What cordless does for your home

Whether you need privacy, light control, heat protection, or you just want to stop worrying about a cord beside a crib, every line we carry has a version with nothing hanging down. Tell us there are small children or pets in the house and we'll spec the whole job that way.

Bedrooms And Nurseries

Privacy and light control for bedrooms with one product

Top Down Bottom Up Honeycomb Shades set a privacy line at eye level and let the light in over the top, and they come cordless or motorized. In a nursery that means the room stays private from the street with nothing hanging down for small hands to reach, and room darkening fabric can combine with light filtering in the same shade for nap time.

It's worth knowing that room darkening still has small light gaps at the sides, and that on a tall window a cordless shade can be a reach, so we check the window height before recommending cordless and suggest a motor where it makes sense.

Doors And Patio Sliders

Doors and sliders are always in high traffic areas, and they often get the attention of pets and kids. We make sure those areas are safe for your whole family

A shade on a door swings when the door does, so we add hold downs at the bottom rail: magnetic hold downs on Roller Shades, a hold down bracket on Wood and Faux Wood Blinds, and hold downs on Honeycomb Shades. Cordless Lift, PowerWand and motorized versions all leave no chain hanging near the door.

For a sliding glass door there's a vertical honeycomb that opens side to side and stacks to one side, and Roller Shades are our usual alternative to vertical blinds there, especially where a handle leaves little room. We measure the door on site so the shade clears the handle and the trim.

Frequently Asked Questions

All of them. Roller Shades, Honeycomb Shades, Banded Shades, Natural Woven Shades, Wood and Faux Wood Blinds and Roman Shades all come with a cordless lift, and Plantation Shutters tilt with no lift system at all. Every product we offer can be motorized as well, drapery included.

Yes. We only offer cordless products through vendors certified Best for Kids, a certification set by the Window Covering Safety Council. Manufacturers have to submit their products to a third party testing lab, and only after those products pass testing can they carry the label.

Yes, and it takes away the thing pets get tangled in. There's no cord, chain or wand beside the window, and the shade runs from a remote, the app on your phone or tablet, a wall switch or your voice. Rechargeable motors need no wiring, so they go into an existing house with no electrical work.

Not on the versions we recommend for a family room. Every line we carry has a cordless lift option and a wand tilt, so there's no accessible cord anywhere on the blind, and three of our four operating systems for blinds are cord free. The traditional cord lift is still available for a high window where a motor isn't preferred, with the cord cleated off at the side of the window.

Yes. The Cordless Lift and Lock Top Down Bottom Up on our Honeycomb Shades goes up to 84 inches wide (it carries a single lift cord on the outer edges, which your Design Specialist will show you), and the motorized version goes up to 120 inches wide with both rails motorized. Either way you set a privacy line at eye level and let the daylight in over the top, which is the usual answer in a bedroom or a bathroom.

Consider the window height first. On a tall window the bottom rail of a cordless shade is out of reach without an extension pole, so for high or hard to reach windows we suggest a cord loop with a hold down, a PowerWand, or a motor. We check the height on the visit before recommending cordless.

Where a chain is required, on a high window where a motor isn't preferred, the continuous loop is tensioned and anchored to the window casing or wall with a child safe hold down device, so nothing hangs loose. A chain guide is required for a Roller Shade to operate properly anyway, and it's the same piece that anchors the chain.

Yes. Our Roman Shades feature the best in cordless operation, so there's no loop hanging down for a child or a pet to reach. You can have a fabric valance covering the working hardware, or let the fabric waterfall off the face of the headrail for a clean look, and automation is available too.

No. Shutters tilt and have no lift system at all, so there's nothing to reach for beside the window. Invisible tilt and split tilt are the options to decide on, and your Design Specialist will show you both on the visit.
