Where It Fits In KC Northland
Where Fixed Screens fit in the Northland
Covered decks over the walkout, the patios underneath and homes on the open ground near the airport all have openings that need a screen cut to their shape.
- Covered decks over the walkoutA covered deck off Barry Road has a peaked roof over it. A Fixed Screen closes the triangle above the patio shades.
- Walkout patios underneathThe patio under the deck has narrow openings between the posts. Fixed Screens cover them in the same screen as the shades.
- Open ground near the airportOn the open lots toward the airport, the wind comes straight across. Fixed Screens are rolled in tight to stand up to it.
- Screened porches on older ranchesA screened porch in Gashland or Claymont can take new Fixed Screens in a no-see-um weave or a solar screen.
Worth Knowing
The deck above and the patio below
A Northland two story with a covered deck and a walkout patio has two outdoor spaces, and both have openings a patio shade can't cover. The deck has a gable end above its shades, and the patio below has narrow openings between the deck posts. Our Fixed Screens close both. They're built on site to your opening sizes, and the system adds no vertical or horizontal supports across the opening, so the view of the yard stays as clear as possible.
Our Exterior Patio Shades and Fixed Screens are made as one system. On the deck, the shades drop over the big openings and the Fixed Screen holds the gable above them. On the walkout patio, the shades cover the wide spans between posts and the Fixed Screens fill the narrow ones. Same screen, same track color, one look from the yard.
The choices are a standard bug screen, a no-see-um weave, a 70% bug screen, and solar screens at 80%, 90% and 95%. On a deck that faces west over the open ground toward the airport, a solar screen takes the edge off the late afternoon sun as well as the bugs.
The open ground toward the airport gives a Northland deck more wind than a deck in an older, tree lined neighborhood south of the river. A screen that isn't held tight will tear at the corners within a season. Rolling each Fixed Screen into its track with a heavy duty spline is what keeps it taut through that wind.
