Retractable Awnings In Kansas City
Retractable Awnings in Kansas City, MO
Solar Shield Blinds installs motorized Retractable Awnings over the uncovered decks and patios of Kansas City, MO. A deck off the back of a Waldo bungalow with no roof and a yard too small for a pergola is exactly where an awning helps, giving you full shade when you want it and rolling back into its cassette when you don't.
Where It Fits In Kansas City
Where Retractable Awnings Fit In Kansas City, MO
City lots don't leave much room for a permanent roof over the patio, and a permanent structure can change the look of an older home. A Retractable Awning gives you shade without one.
- Uncovered decks in Waldo and BrooksideA deck added off the kitchen with no roof can be too hot to use after four. An awning covers it and rolls back when you want the evening sky.
- Patios off a Tudor or ColonialA permanent roof would compete with the roofline on an Armour Hills or Ward Parkway home. Closed, a cassette awning sits neatly against the wall in a frame color that suits the house.
- Rooftop decks downtownA Crossroads or River Market rooftop gets sun from every side. EZ-Pitch lets you change the angle of the awning so it shades the table in the morning and the chairs in the evening.
- Small yards with a grillThe grill lives on the deck because there's nowhere else to put it. An awning over the deck with the built in LED lights means dinner outside after dark in September.
Worth Knowing
Pitch, Cassette, Lighting And Our Guarantee
Our Retractable Awnings extend out over an uncovered patio to give you full shade, then roll back into an integrated cassette that keeps the fabric dry and protected from insects and birds when it's closed. EZ-Pitch lets you change the angle with the included crank handle, no tools and no ladder, so a low morning or evening sun stays off the table. Built in LED light strips under the arms are dimmable and come with their own remote. Every awning is motorized, and we complete the wiring to the closest outlet on install day.
The older neighborhoods in the city have yards that are short from house to alley, and the patio takes up most of that space. There's no room for a pergola and no wish for a permanent roof on a house whose roofline is part of why you bought it. A Retractable Awning works for a bungalow in Waldo, a Tudor in Brookside, a shirtwaist in Hyde Park with a deck on the back, and a rooftop in the Crossroads with a skyline view and no shade at all.
One unit can be made from 10 to 40 feet wide, custom to the exact inch, and it projects 8, 10 or 12 feet from the wall. You can choose from over 300 Sunbrella fabrics, three frame colors at no extra charge, and a straight or sea wave valance. When real wind picks up, you bring the awning in with one press, and a wind sensor can do it for you. The consultation is free, the itemized quote comes on the spot and holds for 180 days, and we plan on 6 to 8 weeks from order to installation.

Straight Answers
Retractable Awnings questions from Kansas City homeowners
Yes. The awning mounts into the brick or the header above the door, and your Design Specialist looks at the wall at the consultation to confirm where it goes. Mounting an awning is a structural job, which is why our own full time Install Techs do every one. Closed, the cassette sits neatly against the brick in white, bronze or beige.
Yes, that's what EZ-Pitch is for. Use the included crank handle to lower the front edge and block the low evening sun, with no tools and no ladder. On a west facing deck in Waldo that's the hour you want to be out there, and the same adjustment lets rain run off one side in a light shower.
Every Retractable Awning we install is motorized. Because of the weight and projection of our awnings, a manual crank for extending the awning isn't recommended. We complete the wiring to the closest outlet during installation, so your new awning works right from the remote on day one.
Yes. LED light strips come standard under the arms of every Solar Shield Blinds Retractable Awning, and they're dimmable with their own remote. A deck off a Waldo kitchen or a Crossroads rooftop is ready for dinner after dark without a floodlight on the wall.
Yes. Our Five Year Service Guarantee covers the awning, so any defect is fixed at no charge, and it's part of our Carefree Guarantee along with lifetime product coverage. Between uses the fabric stays inside the cassette, dry and out of the sun, which is a big part of why an awning lasts. The people who install it are our own full time Install Techs, and they're the same people who come back if it ever needs attention.
We plan on 6 to 8 weeks from order to installation, and we install as quickly as we can once your awning arrives. Book the consultation in early spring and your deck is shaded before the July sun, and your quote holds for 180 days if you want to measure now and decide later.
