Where It Fits In Prairie Village
Where Sliding Screens fit in Prairie Village
Many blocks off Mission Road mix an original Cape Cod, a ranch with a second story added and a full remodel, and every one of them has a different back door.
- Back doors on the Cape CodsAn original Cape Cod in Prairie Hills or Meadowbrook has a back door with no room for a storm door. A Sliding Screen needs no extra framing.
- French doors on the additionsAn addition with French doors onto the patio takes a Sliding Screen for double doors, up to 130 inches wide.
- Bi-fold doors on full remodelsA remodel in Corinth Hills or Somerset Hills that opened the kitchen with a bi-fold door gets a Large Opening Sliding Screen up to 12 feet wide.
- Front doors on the ranchesA front door on a ranch in Town & Country Estates can let the breeze in through a screen that slides out of sight.
Worth Knowing
One street, three kinds of back door
Prairie Village was built in the 1940s and 1950s, and almost every block has changed since. An original Cape Cod sits next to a ranch with a second story added and a full remodel with a new kitchen opening onto the yard. That means a narrow back door on one house, French doors on an addition next door, and a bi-fold door on the remodel across the street. Our Sliding Screens fit all three. They don't require the framing a traditional door system needs, they're built to the exact size of your door, and they retract into their housing when you're not using them.
The back door on an original Cape Cod is a single door, and a Standard Sliding Screen covers one up to 65 inches wide and 9 feet tall. French doors on an addition take the double door version, up to 130 inches. The bi-fold doors that came with the full remodels take a Large Opening Sliding Screen, up to 12 feet wide and 10 feet tall, or 24 feet with two paired.
Expect a few things. The mesh looks slightly wavy from some angles, retained mesh more so at its zipper weld, and the tracks need lubricant several times a year. The bottom track also leaves a low threshold in the doorway. Your Design Specialist measures every door on the free visit to your Prairie Village home, and the quote holds for 180 days.
Houses in Prairie Village sit close, and the back door on a Cape Cod opens onto a small patio a few steps from the neighbor's fence. A screen door that swings out takes up half of that patio. A Sliding Screen moves sideways in its track, so the patio keeps every foot of its space, and the screen tucks away when the door closes.
