Where It Fits In Lenexa
Where drapery and curtains fit in Lenexa
From City Center lofts to living rooms that haven't changed in years, fabric at the window is the quickest way to finish a room.
- Hard, echoing roomsHard floors and big glass bounce sound around a room. Two lined panels either side of the window change how it sounds and how it feels.
- Living rooms due for a new lookA pair of lined panels and a cornice give a picture window a new look with no paint, drywall or contractor.
- Bedrooms on the sunrise sideInterlined panels over a room darkening shade block the early light and keep a bedroom cozy.
- Kitchens and bathsA Roman Shade lifts clear of the faucet and brings soft fabric to a room where floor length drapery won't fit.
Worth Knowing
Fabric, lining, and finishing a window you've already covered
Soft treatments are the best way to customize any space. Fabric makes a room feel finished, softens the noise a room with hard floors and big windows creates, and pulls the colors in the room together. Many of our fabrics are stocked in our custom workrooms and ready for your next project, and our COM program, customer's own material, means we can build to a fabric you already love. If you can think it, our team can plan, create, and install it for you.
Lining decides how a panel works. Unlined is translucent and will fade, a lined panel hangs better and blocks more, and interlined is heavier again, the choice when the drapery is doing real light blocking work. To make a Lenexa room look taller, we mount the rod close to the ceiling and run the panels to the floor, with two to two and a half times the window width in fabric for proper fullness. Cornices and top treatments can go over drapery, blinds, shades or shutters.
Most of our drapery ends up layered over a shade, which does the work at the glass while the fabric does the work in the room. Roman Shades come in Classic, Relaxed, Pleated London, Hobbled, Knife Pleat and Ribbed Pleat styles, all with cordless operation, and motorized traverse rods handle very wide or tall panels. Your Design Specialist brings the fabric books to your Lenexa home and writes an exact quote on the spot. Custom soft treatments take 4 to 6 weeks, and our Install Techs steam and dress every panel.

Straight Answers
Drapery & Soft Treatments questions from Lenexa homeowners
Yes. Drapes, curtains, sheers, side panels, Roman Shades, cornices, valances, pillows and bench seat cushions are all cut and sewn in our own workroom from drapery weight fabrics. Nothing is stock or ready made, and everything is hung and dressed on site by our own Install Techs.
It's one of the biggest fixes you can make without changing the floor. Lined fabric is the cheapest acoustic treatment there is, and full height panels on a window wall absorb sound in a way nothing else in the room does.
Interlined panels do real light blocking work, and a blackout liner on the drapery or a Roman Shade makes a bedroom dark and cozy. For the darkest room, layer the drapery over a blackout shade at the glass so the two work together.
Higher than you think, yes. We fix the rod close to the ceiling, or about two thirds of the way between the top of the casing and the ceiling, then run the panel all the way to the floor. It makes a wall read taller and a room feel bigger than it measures.
Yes. Motorized traverse rods are available, and they earn their keep on very wide or very tall panels, or on a rod you can't easily reach. Roman Shades can be automated too, and your Design Specialist will tell you whether it's worth it on your windows.
In most rooms, yes. Unlined fabric is translucent and fades, while a lined panel hangs better, blocks more light and lasts longer. Fabric, lining, fullness, window size and hardware all go into the price, and your Design Specialist quotes each option so you can compare them before you decide.
